Punch (alcoholisch drankje) is terug in!

Dhow at sunsetSeptember 30 We had to leave Nungwi at 9:30 Sunday morning to get to the airport. Sort of wished we'd skipped the big half moon party at Kendwa Rocks, but it was interesting and the music and dancing were good. Unfortunately, they didn't have Tusker and apparently I only like Kenyan beer, not Tanzanian. Oh well. Drive to Zanzibar airport where they are redoing the the blacktop - don't you just love the smell of hot tar on a sweltering day? The airport is quite interesting - good parts of it are outdoors, and why not, they don't get snow! We were terrifically lucky on the flight we picked because the earlier one was grossly overbooked and a lot of Europeans were pretty unhappy. I begged Jackie to look out the window on take off, it was the most beautiful view of the island - with tourquoise water all around. Quite lovely. The pilot notified us when we passed Mount Kilimanjaro - quite likely the only time I'll see it as I can't ever imagine myself climbing it. The flight was not quite two hours and since no checked luggage we sailed through the airport. It was Jackies' ...

Finding Maximon in AntiguaWhile walking around Antigua, we kept noticing a wooden statue of a mustached man wearing a black suit, red tie and a wide-brimmed hat and smoking a cigar. We asked who he was and were told he was Maximon or San Simon. While we saw several in town, there were three chapels that were built just for him. The closest was in a town called San Andres Itzapa. We decided to go on a quest to find Maximon. Just who is Maximon and why would we be searching for him? We went online and found that Maximon is a pre-Columbian Mayan god of the underworld formerly known as Maam ("grandfather"); his modern name is a combination of Maam and Simon. He is also seen as an “everyman” saint; one who likes to smoke and drink. People pray to him requesting good health, good crops, a new truck, etc. Driving here in Antigua and its outskirts are challenging. We don’t have a great map and finding one is next to impossible, so we found directions online and I wrote down step-by-step directions for each turn. Now, just because the directions say there’s a road or a turn doesn’t ...

What are some of the reasons that books are banned in high school? Because of the issues of sex, profanity, and racism.Do you agree with any of these reasons? I don't agree with some of these reasons because children are going to get exposed to this when they grow up. They need to become exposed to it at an early age in order to adapt. What reasons do you not agree with? Banning books about racism. We need to be able to read about the negative affects of racism in order to not repeat the same mistakes.Who do you think pressures teachers? I think the media and also what they have been taught. They could start a protest in order to gather more backup. They can presuade more people to join them.
